Gaelic Football for Everyone took place in Michaelmas Term (Every second Wednesday at 4 pm in the Trinity Sports Centre).

What is Gaelic football for everyone?

Last year the Trinity Ability co_op thought about some projects that they wanted to work on. It was discussed that disabled students often felt excluded from Gaelic Football and other sports growing up. From this discussion, inclusive Gaelic Football training was set up where disabled students and others who wanted to try out Gaelic Football. These sessions were led by Anna Galvin, Occupational Therapist in the Disability Service and Captain of the Kerry football team.

The Trinity Ability co_op received funding from TCDSU’s 10k Have Your Say! Fund for the first year of Gaelic Football for Everyone. In 2022-23, Gaelic Football for Everyone is part of Trinity Sport’s Learn to Play Programme.

These training sessions allowed students to engage in beginner-friendly Gaelic Football in an environment that worked for them. Whether that meant the sport was adapted in some way, the tension that often comes with sports was gone or the instructions were given in a clear way, and students were encouraged to ask questions.
